Black Hill

Huge blocks and monoliths of granite in a pleasant forest reserve

This small forest reserve is located about 90 km north west of Melbourne. To get there, use the Calder Highway in the direction of Bendigo. When the road turns into a freeway again around Kyneton, use the next intersection and turn north on the Edgecombe - Eppalock road.

After about 4 km turn right into Hallorans Lane and follow it to the T-intersection. Turn left into Black Hill Road and drive to the end of the road. Park there, and walk into the park on the gravel/dirt road that cross the reserve.

The climbing routes are spread out on a number of huge blocks and monoliths. The routes are in the range from 5.5/5.6 to 5.12a/b. Most of the around 60 routes are bolted, but ring bolt plates for these hangerless bolts. Black Hill offers a lot of friction climbing with some good edges but only a few cracks. It is only one-rope length climbs here, but some of them are longer then 30m.
