Varenna: Picnic and swimming

Varenna has become a popular excursion spot for us. It is easy to reach by train from Milano, and we often go here on Sunday after church. It takes only about 1 hour and 10 min to reach the site using the direct train from Centrale. Good train connection and short walking distance is of course pleasing, but so is the place. Not exactly a beach, but nice for a swim anyway. This is an excellent place to spend the day when the weather is good.

The site might grant limited variety in climbing, but is excellent to improve friction techniques. Sunday June 14th (1998) we was here together with Ramona and her husband, Omar. It was a terrific day with excellent climbing and food. This was Omar's first climbing trip, but he proved him self very talented.

Also in 1999 our swimming season opened in Varenna. We had a pleasant afternoon and evening there together with Ian and Anna-Maria on the 2nd of May. We got many climbs, and also time for a swim. Now as the days become longer, it is possible to climb here until after 20:00, and that day we left for Milano by the 21:27 train.
